Property Description

REDUCED FOR QUICK SALE - About Rhodes.
Rhodes is a quaint Victorian village of some 300 plots around two thirds of which have properties built upon them. It is picturesquely situated amid steep green foothills that lead to Lesotho and the Tiffandell ski resort (for which there is a shuttle bus in the ski season) is just ten kilometres away.

The village is on the banks of the Bell river where there is popular trout fishing. The village benefits from the landscape planting of large numbers of poplars and willow trees donated by Cecil Rhodes after whom the village is named.

All roads in Rhodes are wide and dirt with Victorian style street signing, and there is no street lighting meaning, combined with its height of nearly two thousand meters above sea level, there are unparalleled views of the stars at night.

The approaches to Rhodes are primarily from Barkly East which is 40 kilometers to the west and Mount Fletcher to the east via the spectacular Naudes Nek pass.

The village offers an exceptional air of tranquillity and is a peaceful, safe and beautiful environment in which to gather ones thoughts and take breath.

The village benefits from the quirky and entertaining Walkabouts Bar and Restaurant, the Rubicon Bar and Restaurant offering specials nights and one kilometre to the west Bernard's brewery and restaurant. The Rhodes Hotel across the street from the guest house is currently closed due to legal disputes but when open is described in the Rough guide to have 'the most atmospheric bar in South Africa'. Twenty kilometres toward Naudes Nek and high in the hills is the Tina Head five star hotel bar and restaurant that is open to visitors.

There is a simple shop and a police station in the village.

Things to do.

Rhodes is primarily about welcoming a slower pace of life but it has spectacular walking and horse riding, trout fishing, hunting, skiing, swimming and tennis courts right on the doorstep. It is on a number of overland four wheel trails and is a popular overnight stop with visitors passing through. Events such as the Rhodes marathon attract large numbers of visitors and it is comparatively busy in the ski season, when the snow can fall to the level of the village.

Garden Guest House. Is ideally centrally located opposite the hotel and diagonally from the tennis courts. All traffic passing through Rhodes goes past the front door.

To be sold including all furnishings, fixtures, fittings and appliances on the property included in the sale price. The property is offered with the option to purchase the double plot at a discounted package price to the east that runs between Muller and Naude Street.
